I Can See It Now

New Brewers manager Ned Yost convinces new Brewers GM Doug Melvin in 2002 to swing a deal for Wes Helms for the express purpose of conditioning him to hit a home run on the final game of the 2008 season to help the Brewers to the postseason. The same Ned Yost says "We'll ingrain it in his mind for a few seasons, then let him find work elsewhere, but as long as he knows to hit a homer in that game against the Mets, our plan is foolproof."

Later the same day, Yost tells Melvin that he'll tank the team in the 2006 season so that they can be in position to draft Matt LaPorta in 2007. "The dude can rake and he'd be perfect trade bait in the '08 season to get the best pitcher in the game," Yost predicted. "That pitcher will totally get us into the playoffs in 2008 if we use him on short rest and have him pitch the final game. In tandem with the Helms and golden-armed pitcher, our draft pick of 2005 will hit the deciding homer in game 162 in 2008."

Ned Yost: Nostradamus.
