Fun with Numbers

I'll take a 2-1 series against the favored division rival anytime. The Brewers start the Miller Park season with probably the worst team in the NL, your San Francisco Giants. Brewers up 3-0.

I'm not certain what the GM is doing over there, but their atrocious lineup is a sight to behold. Over lunch, I had a random thought to calculate the Brewers starting lineup against the Giants' by using VORP (just to keep things simple – PECOTA 2008 predictions thanks to BP).

The result? Brewers 219.4, Giants 82.3

This comes with a couple of qualifiers as there isn't a VORP listing for Gabe Kapler and the man named Bocock for the Giants has a negative VORP (-7.4). Surprisingly, the guy pitching for the Giants, of whom I've never heard of, has a higher VORP (11.9) than my partial man-crush Brewers pitcher Carlos Villanueva (7.7). It's probably due to the other guy striking more out, but I'll still take Villanueva over him any day.

I wonder if one of the script guys could put the Brewers lineup against the Giants in a 162 game schedule. I'm positive the Brewers would win about 130 of those.
